Global Ties U.S. is currently not accepting applications. 

All interns are expected to work for a minimum of ten weeks, but more is preferred. The internship position is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens. Please note, Global Ties U.S. cannot help non-U.S. citizens obtain visas.

Successful applicants are invited to work with Global Ties U.S. for one semester, and expected to take on a particularly significant role with the organization. For our fall internship, there the possibility to extend the internship for a second semester (through spring 2015), based upon performance and mutual agreement between Global Ties U.S. and interns. Global Ties U.S. interns develop their communications, event services, member services, research, nonprofit, advocacy, and public diplomacy skills through a balance of short-term tasks and long-term projects. Long-term projects are undertaken depending on a particular intern’s backgrounds, skills, and interests. In addition, interns are assigned some daily administrative functions, and are encouraged to attend special educational and cultural events outside of the office.

Internship start and end dates can be flexible based on the intern’s academic calendar. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 25 hours per week.  (Full-days are preferable to half-days.)

Internship Description

Interns work with the entire staff on a variety of projects as per the needs of Global Ties U.S. Projects are assigned to complement and enhance the intern’s skills, background and interests.

•    Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills

•    Experience with MS Office (Word and Excel)

•    Background and interest in citizen diplomacy, public diplomacy, nonprofit leadership, global engagement, or international education and exchange

•    Ability to work under minimal supervision

•    Ability to meet deadlines

•    Event planning background/interest desired, but not essential

•    Experience with graphic design (InDesign and Photoshop) desired, but not essential

•    Flexibility and willingness to work beyond the parameters of a job description

•    Maturity and a sense of humor


Scholarships are made available to accepted applicants, based on successful completion of a 1-2 page essay. Two scholarships are currently available:

Andrew J. Valuchek Scholarship

Applicants with a strong interest exploring the impact of professional exchanges programs, examining the role of exchange in promoting global civil society, or advocating for the importance of public diplomacy should consider applying for the Andrew J. Valuchek scholarship. Interest should be clearly stated in the applicant’s cover letter.

To be considered, applicants must submit a separate 1 to 2 page essay explaining how professional exchange programs impact society, build international understanding, and promote global civil society. The essay should also offer thoughts on how to effectively advocate for Congressional support of professional exchange programs.

Recipients will receive a $1,500 scholarship during their semester with Global Ties U.S.

Lawrence J. Chastang Scholarship

Applicants who are interested in the impact of internationally focused NGOs and the local level, how global engagement positively impacts American communities, and the economic benefits of public diplomacy should consider applying to this scholarship. The procedure is very similar to the Valuchek listed above, applicants should submit a 1 to 2 page essay explaining how exchanges positively impact local communities and the difference they make in American civil society.

Recipients will receive a $1,500 scholarship during their semester with Global Ties U.S.
