Cultivating the Next Generation of Citizen Diplomats

Global Ties U.S. partnered with Hosteling International and FHI 360 to bring twenty young adults from across the country to Washington, DC. Through this Emerging Leaders Program, they had the chance to build their professional skills and learn about career opportunities in the Global Ties network.

These young adults participated in the 2014 National Meeting as well as specially designed programs to advance their professional development and widen their network, including meetings with leaders in the field of public diplomacy and unprecedented networking opportunities. Emerging Leaders met high-level diplomats as they volunteered and participated in special events such as Embassy Receptions and the Luncheon with the Ambassadors. 2014 Emerging Leader Wendi Moore of Alabama said:

“this experience not only taught me a great deal about [this] wonderful organization and how to navigate inside it, but also encouraged me a great deal. After speaking with the panel at the [U.S. Department of] State, getting an amazing job in foreign relations seems less like a pipe dream.”

Last year, a third of participants were able to secure jobs as a result of this opportunity. This reinvigorated program, which doubled since last year, has opened doors to young leaders in the field of international affairs.

We’re so close to meeting our Annual Fund goal! We only have $14,000 left to raise in order to ensure that valuable programs like this one continue in the future.
