Fundraising & Development Intern

Purpose of the Role  

The Fundraising & Development Intern supports the External Affairs team on a broad range of initiatives and can expect a fast-paced, well-rounded experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, and sponsorship.

The ideal candidate should be curious about our work at Global Ties U.S. and be open to learning about nonprofit communications. They should have some related experience (can include coursework and/or previous internships). including the ability to conduct internet research, write compelling content for thank you letters and other fundraising materials and correspondence, and maintain accurate database records. They should also possess a strong work ethic; a positive, can-do attitude; and a commitment to collaboration and teamwork. An interest in nonprofit management, international affairs, advocacy, and/or public diplomacy is an asset. Through this internship, we hope to support candidates seeking careers in fundraising and development, specifically in the nonprofit sector or the international affairs field.

Finalist candidates will be required to pass a brief writing test.

Core Responsibilities   

  • Conduct internet research using a variety of sources (websites, tax filings, and proprietary databases)  
  • Support stewardship of our donors and our event sponsors and exhibitors , including scheduling calls and meetings, tracking content (e.g. logos, etc.), and logging payments
  • Draft fundraising materials, including correspondence for the President & CEO and content for our various campaigns and appeals.
  • Support virtual and in-person events related to development and external affairs.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a student during the internship period  
  • Background in communications, nonprofit fundraising, event management, marketing, or related fields   
  • Desire to pursue a career in nonprofits, public diplomacy, and/or international affairs   
  • Ability to pass a short research and writing test   
  • Experience in writing and/or preparing content for websites, email, and social media   
  • Experience with fundraising a plus 
  • Experience with office productivity tools (MS Office, Google Drive, etc.)  
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, prospect research software, or grants databases (Salesforce, Foundation Directory, Blackbaud, etc.) is a plus

  • Office location: Washington, DC
