Photo Contest Rules & Regulations

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Photo Contest. Please read below for the rules and regulations on participating:

  • Photos will be judged by how well they capture the spirit of citizen diplomacy that showcase the power and impact exchanges. They should be dynamic, tell a powerful story, showcase a unique community, or capture a powerful interaction between exchange participants and community leaders.
  • There is a limit of five (5) photos per entrant. Entrants may be one or more of the following:
    • employee, volunteer, or board member of a Global Ties Network member (community-based, national, or international member)
    • International Visitor Liaisons and Interpreters
    • Federal government employee
    • Global Ties U.S. staff
    • Exchange program alum
  • Photos must be submitted in JPEG, JPG, PNG, or GIF format in the highest resolution possible. Note that photos may be disqualified if they are too low in quality.
  • Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified.
  • All entries must be identified with a title and description as well as the entrant’s name and their organization. Photos submitted without a title and description will be disqualified. Those submitting multiple entries should clearly identify their digital entries so there is no confusion as to which title corresponds with which entry.
  • By entering the contest, entrants grant Global Ties U.S. and those authorized by Global Ties U.S. a royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly and all other standard purposes. Global Ties U.S. will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses. Contest entrants must certify on the entry form that all photographed persons have given their approval for use and distribution of their image.
