Rochester Global Connections Rebrands to Engage More Global Citizens

ROCHESTER, NY, January 24, 2018 — Rochester Global Connections (RGC) is launching a new brand on Friday, January 26, 4:30-6:30PM at the Rochester Brainery, F109, 176 Anderson Ave, Rochester, NY 14607.

Senator Joseph E. Robach and County Clerk Adam Bello will speak at the event in support of RGC’s mission to promote cultural exchange and international understanding.

“Now more than ever, our community needs to come together to build bridges of international understanding through dialogue and cultural exchange. We hope that our new brand raises awareness about how people can actively become global citizens to enrich lives and make Rochester a more inclusive, global community”, says Cecelia Hencke, Executive Director.

RGC welcomes the community to join the event on Friday, where guests will witness the unveiling of the new logo, tagline, and website. The event theme, “Tea with RGC”, reflects the history of why the organization was formed over 60 years ago. One of RGC’s founders, May Crowley, was inspired after having tea with British students. Crowley saw how valuable friendships were with people from diverse backgrounds, especially during a time heavily impacted by war and conflict. Crowley began to host international students in Rochester for tea and thereafter, a movement began to welcome international students to the Rochester community by forming friendships between locals and international students to enrich lives and increase global understanding.

The population of international students has drastically changed over the past 60 years. When RGC formed, there were only 100 international students in the Rochester area; now there are over 6,000 international students studying at local universities. In addition, RGC has expanded to offer educational and professional exchange programs through the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Library of Congress, hosting up to 100 international visitors from 30 different countries, on an annual basis. There is a great demand for volunteers who can provide hospitality for international students and international visitors.
