Announcing 2023 Diplomacy Begins Here Regional Summit Hosts

WASHINGTON, DC — Global Ties U.S. is pleased to announce the locations of the 2023 Diplomacy Begins Here Regional Summits.

Held in cities across the United States, Diplomacy Begins Here Summits bring together U.S. and international leaders from the business, government, and nonprofit fields to raise awareness around international exchange programs and their benefit to U.S. communities, economies, and citizens.

The 2023 hosts, cities, and dates are:

August 21-22 | Burlington, VT
Hosted by Vermont Council on World Affairs

September 21-22 | Kansas City, MO
Hosted by Global Ties KC

“The Diplomacy Begins Here Regional Summits are a wonderful opportunity for our members in Kansas City and Burlington to build community within their cities, and within the Global Ties Network,” said Katherine Brown, Ph.D., President & CEO of Global Ties U.S. “We’re excited to work with Global Ties KC and the Vermont Council on World Affairs on these events and are confident they’ll each organize an amazing program that celebrates their communities, but also showcases the unparalleled power of this Network to increase citizen-led engagement in foreign affairs.”

The Diplomacy Begins Here Regional Summits are funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by Global Ties U.S. in collaboration with local Community-Based Members (CBMs). The Summits are an opportunity to forge new connections with local communities, build professional networks, and deepen understanding of U.S. foreign policy, the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), and the benefits of exchange programs to U.S. citizens and the communities that host them.

Since 2014, the Summits have connected thousands of international exchange partners and supporters in more than 20 U.S. cities, including Albuquerque, NM; Cleveland, OH; Huntsville, AL; Louisville, KY; Manchester, NH; and Miami, FL. This year is Global Ties KC’s second time hosting, having previously held a Summit in 2017 focused on Women’s Empowerment: Economic Development and Entrepreneurship; Vermont Council on World Affairs is a first-time host of this signature event.

Each Summit also includes a Learning Lab, which is a full day of professional development for Global Ties Network members to share their knowledge and expertise with each other. We are currently working with our 2023 Summit hosts to determine the event dates and plan to be able to announce that by May.

Please note that health and safety protocols for these events will be determined by the local host CBMs based on local conditions and regulations. More detailed information will be available two months in advance of each event. For more immediate questions or concerns, please contact Membership@GlobalTiesUS.org.
