Position Overview
The Program Associate for Strategic Communications and External Affairs plays a key role supporting all functions of the team at Global Ties U.S. This includes communications support (developing, drafting, and packaging content, including for the website, social media, and email marketing); advocacy support (tracking developments in Congress, preparing updates and resources for the Global Ties Network); support for the implementation of Global Ties U.S. events; team-wide administrative support; and special projects. As such, this position encompasses and hones a full range of communications and external affairs skills, backstopping a dedicated and mission-oriented team.
Reports to: Associate Director, Strategic Communications
FLSA Status: Exempt
Essential Functions and Duties
- Draft and package content for regular emails to the Network
- Develop and proofread editorial content for the website and digital publications, and assist with social media content, including toolkits
- Track legislation and budget developments in Congress, and prepare regular updates for both internal and external use
- Support the implementation of Global Ties U.S. events, including the annual National Meeting, and more
- Support institutional relationships and collaboration with external partners and Network members
Preferred Qualities & Experience
- Eagerness and aptitude for learning new platforms and skills, including Basecamp, SharePoint, WordPress, and Salesforce. Existing proficiency in these platforms is a plus
- Positive, can-do attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet tight and shifting deadlines
- Commitment to collaboration and teamwork
- Comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and providing feedback
- Demonstrated experience working with and writing for email communications, websites, and social media a plus
- B.A. in related field preferred (e.g. journalism, public relations, marketing, political science, international affairs)
- Two years of relevant work experience (can include coursework and internships), including at least some of the essential functions described above
