What We Do

Global Ties U.S. provides our members with connections, leadership development, and professional resources, so that they are the strongest, most effective organizations they can be. We are dedicated to providing our members with programs and services that:

  • Develop their leadership and management capacities
  • Strengthen their abilities to design high-quality professional programs, cultural activities, and hospitality for exchange participants
  • Involve ordinary U.S. citizens in building mutual understanding between people and nations

National Leadership and Representation

We represent the interests of our members and showcase their capabilities to a wide variety of audiences at the national and international levels, including: the U.S. Department of State, the United States Congress, foreign embassies, academia, NGOs, corporations, and foundations.

Financial Resources

We administer grants to support our members’ efforts to conduct the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and serve as a partner and a resource for other exchange program grants and opportunities.

Professional Development Programs

We actively cultivate the professional capacities of staff, board members, and volunteers at member organizations through events and resources that cover topics such as nonprofit management, best practices in professional and youth exchange programs, foreign policy, and international affairs. Our professional development programs are exclusive to the Global Ties Network, and include:

Online Learning

Through our dynamic online learning system, participants can choose from a growing array of interactive, self-paced courses related to managing and expanding international exchange programs. With offerings tailored to both entry-level professionals and more experienced learners looking to expand their skillsets, there is something for everyone. Learn more (member login required).

Webinars

Global Ties U.S. offers online training with its webinar series. The webinars are monthly opportunities to hear from experts in organizational management, exchange programming, and cross-cultural relations.

Network DC

Network DC is a program designed for Community-Based Member (CBM) representatives and provides participants with the opportunity to highlight their community and meet face-to-face with the key DC players responsible for the IVLP at the national level and to highlight CBM community resources and capabilities. Targeted towards new leaders holding an executive role in their organization or for staff holding a key role in IVLP project management, each participant should be prepared to engage in dialogue about his or her organization and community resources.

Virtual Exchange Academy

Global Ties U.S. launched the Virtual Exchange Academy (VEA), in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of International Visitors, to help IVLP implementing CBMs gain the skills and confidence needed to implement virtual IVLP projects successfully.

Educating and Engaging with Congress

We empower our members to engage and educate their elected representatives on the important role international exchange programs play in building a more peaceful, prosperous world.
