Throughout May and June 2022, 19 Global Ties Network members across the United States hosted Community Conversations, a special event series to share the socio-cultural impact of International Expos (also known as World Fairs) on U.S. citizens and communities. These events were a continuation of the paper, “Experiencing Expos: An Oral History of U.S. Citizens’ Engagement with World’s Fairs, 1962–2017,” and featured the authors of the paper, colleagues from the U.S. Department of State, and others including Youth Ambassadors and Cultural Performers from Expo 2020 Dubai who discussed the history and impact of Expos. Additional information about the paper can be found in the article “Presenting ‘Experiencing Expos,’ An Oral History Project.” Our final event “Experiencing Expos: U.S. Citizens’ Engagement with a Vital Public Diplomacy Platform” took place on July 7 as part of the Global Ties Forum Series.
