Since our founding in 1961, Global Ties U.S. has fostered connections that break down borders, shatter stereotypes, and create a more peaceful, prosperous world. As we look to the future, we are pleased to share our refreshed mission statement and tagline, developed in partnership with our community, and aligned with our commitment to modernizing exchange programs, building a more inclusive and diverse international exchange field, and serving Global Ties Network members in their missions.
Our refreshed mission statement is: Powering individuals, communities, and nations to build trust and advance peace and prosperity through international exchange.
Originally created 60 years ago to support the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), Global Ties U.S. now comprises a network of more than 120 local, national, and international organizations representing all 50 U.S. states, and more than 20 countries. Our members are exchange professionals who provide the domestic infrastructure for U.S. public and subnational diplomacy efforts, and build the social trust that is foundational to peace and prosperity, both globally and locally, through international exchange.
Through international exchange programs, Global Ties U.S. and our Network of citizen ambassadors are:
- Enhancing our national security by building trust and alliances with the world’s leaders
- Helping local businesses learn how to better compete in a global marketplace
- Preparing individuals for success in an increasingly transnational workplace
- Connecting U.S. and international counterparts to find solutions to local challenges together
