Senior Accountant

Global Ties U.S. is seeking a Senior Accountant to be a part of the Office of Finance and Operations and increase the capacity of the Office. This individual will perform a full range of professional accounting, recording, reconciling, and reporting of financial data in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, concepts, and practices. To succeed in this role, an individual must be well-organized, forward thinking, and energetic.

The Office of Finance and Operations provides financial and administrative support services to the entire organization of Global Ties U.S., such as cash receipts and disbursements, accounts receivable and accounts payable, payroll, 403(b) retirement plan, various employee benefit plans, office management, IT, HR, accounting and reporting, internal controls, audit management, etc. On the financial side of the operations, the Office directs, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day accounting activities of the organization, establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, prepares complex financial reports, monitors and records financial activity, develops and institutes internal controls, maintains the integrity of accounting and reporting functions, prepares, and coordinates annual audits with outside auditors, coordinates and participates in financial/budget research and analytical projects, prepares technical reports and recommendations regarding research findings, and other functions as assigned.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Assists the Senior Director of Finance and Operations in the closeout of the fiscal year and preparation of audit schedules before and during the annual audits.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Finance and Operations in the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Performs reviews, analysis, reconciliations, and evaluation of general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
  • Performs reviews, analysis, and evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial management functions and processes and recommend corrective action as necessary.
  • Responsible for updating rules, regulations, policies, accounting and non-accounting systems, and procedures pertinent to financial management within the Office of Finance and Operations or programs assigned.
  • Works independently on continuing assignments or projects that require application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices, and theories of professional accounting.
  • Performs special projects and assignments for automated financial systems, daily review of accounting inputs and outputs, and reviews edit master files for any irregularities.
  • Reviews the work of other Finance staff to ensure accuracy and conformity to standing policies and procedures, instructing them, when necessary, on proper methods.
  • Performs special reviews and analyses to ensure the integrity of the general control system and prepares special reports and financial statements relating to programs.
  • Assists program managers in developing accounting/budget data structure and participates in the planning and coordination associated with program closeouts.
  • Applies corresponding GAAP knowledge and skills in the application of corrective procedures when necessary and provides technical guidance to the Finance and Program staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in accounting from an AACSB accredited college or university that includes 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. The term “accounting” means “accounting and/or auditing.” Similarly, “accountant” should be interpreted, generally, as “accountant and/or auditor.” Candidates are required to provide college transcripts in support of the required credits.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in accounting, external auditing, or a combination of both.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with different personality styles and build collaborative working relationships.
  • Highly proficient in Office 365 with expert-level skills in Excel, including the creation and manipulation of pivot tables.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In addition to the above basic requirements, a candidate with a Masters in accounting, finance, or business management from an AACSB-accredited college or university preferred.
  • In addition to the above basic requirements, a candidate with an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or who has passed some part of the CPA licensing exams is preferred.
  • In addition to the above basic requirements, a candidate with previous experience with General Ledger, month-end closing, reconciliations, and preparation of monthly financial statements is preferred.
